Second Annual Big Fish Challenge Kayak Fishing Tournament to be held in Wetumpka

The Elmore County Economic Development Authority (ECEDA), City of Wetumpka, Wetumpka Area Chamber of Commerce, and Main Street Wetumpka are partnering to host the second annual River Region Kayak Anglers (RRKA) Big Fish Challenge on the Coosa River Sunday, April 25th. The tournament is open to anyone. Registration will be on Friday, April 23rd at the Wetumpka Administrative Building (408 S. Main Street Wetumpka, AL 36092) starting at 6:00 PM with the captains meeting following at 7:00 PM. The entry fee is $20 and will be paid out to the top four anglers. The boundaries of the tournament are from Jordan Dam to convergence with the Tallapoosa River at Fort Toulouse.
On Sunday, April 25th, lines go in at 6:00 AM and must be out at 3:00 PM. Weigh in will take place at the Wetumpka Administrative Building (408 S. Main Street Wetumpka, AL 36092) at 4:00 PM. Note: this is a date change due to Saturday’s weather forecast.
Along with the top four anglers pay out, there will be a $500 big fish prize, $100 tagged fish reward, $100 best photo contest, and Bending Branches angler pro paddle and gift certificates raffled off.
“ECEDA is honored to partner with RRKA to host the Big Fish Challenge for the second year,” Elmore County Economic Development Authority Executive Assistant, Ansley Emfinger said. “We hope that the anglers see that we are the superior kayak fishery in the State of Alabama and choose to come back to Elmore County to fish again.”

This is a great event not only for the people that are participating, but also for our community. I am sure that after a couple of days here on our beautiful river and in our wonderful town, they will understand why we all love this place so much and will want to come back!”
City of Wetumpka Mayor Jerry Willis said, “I am excited that Wetumpka has the opportunity to share our beautiful river with the kayak anglers again this year. The Coosa River is known for great fishing, and I know that these anglers will have a good day on the water. I hope all of the anglers have a safe and productive tournament.”
